Consider these facts before deleting your account
When you delete your account permanently, TikTok also deletes every video you’ve uploaded, including your Drafts. TikTok gives 30 days limited time to reactivate your account to allow you to retrieve it if you change your mind. After logging in with your email and password, you can reactivate your TikTok account. Your account won’t be visible to anyone on the app in this deactivation period.
Before deleting the account, you may want to download your data, as there’s no way to recover it afterward. Which includes the following information, you can request your account data:
- Profile: Your user name/ profile name, profile picture, biography, email address, and contact number
- Activity: Video histories, comments, likes, chats, purchases, and favorites
- App settings: Notifications, privacy settings, and language
Via the next section, let’s see how to back up your important data.
Backing up your essential data
To request a backup of your data, follow these steps:
- Go to the TikTok app, then go to your profile > Settings and privacy > Privacy > Download your data
- If you choose “TXT” as an option, you’ll end up with a human-readable text file. If you select “JSON,” you’ll get a text file that’s formatted like Javascript, making it easier to feed it into computer programs
- It’ll be on the “Download your data” screen in the Download data tab, once your file’s been created. TikTok warns that it could take a few days before your data is available to download, so you’d be advised to wait a bit before deleting your account
The received file only includes data like your profile information, video and comment history, and settings info and it doesn’t include your videos. However, if you want to keep those, you need to download them manually. Follow these simple steps to download TikTok videos to your device:
- Go to the TikTok profile and select the video you want to download
- Tap the “…” button and select “Save video”
That’s it! If you want a long break from social media, keep it up! But, if you change your mind, make sure to request your account be reactivated within 30 days or it’ll be gone forever!
